RV Mattress Sizes Explained
RV mattresses are rarely standard sizes. Manufacturers use odd dimensions to fit beds into tight spaces and around slide-outs.
Common RV Bed Sizes
- RV Short Queen: 75" × 60" (vs. 80" × 60" standard queen). The most common RV mattress size.
- RV King: 72" × 72" or 72" × 80". Not the same as a standard king (80" × 76").
- RV Bunk: Varies wildly, typically 28" × 75" to 35" × 75".
- Dinette Conversion: Custom sizes, often 40" × 72" or similar.
Tips for Buying an RV Mattress
- Measure First: Don't assume your bed is "standard." Measure length, width, and corner radius.
- Check Thickness: RV beds have limited headroom. 8-10" thick mattresses are ideal.
- Watch for Corners: Many RV beds have rounded corners (2-4" radius) to fit against curved walls.
- Custom Options: Companies like Denver Mattress, Tochta, and Wayfair offer custom RV mattresses.
Can I Use a Standard Mattress?
Sometimes! A standard queen (80" × 60") can work in an RV short queen (75" × 60") bed if you let it overhang the footboard. However, it may interfere with slides, drawers, or walkways. Measure carefully.
