Troubleshooting RV Furnace Problems
Furnace Won't Ignite
If you hear the blower but no ignition, the igniter board or flame sensor is likely faulty. Check for a clicking sound—if it clicks but doesn't light, the propane pressure may be too low or the orifice is clogged.
Blower Runs But No Heat
The sail switch detects airflow and allows ignition. If it's stuck or dirty, the furnace won't light. Clean or replace the sail switch. Also check the limit switch—it shuts down the furnace if it overheats.
Cycles On and Off
Short cycling usually means the furnace is overheating due to restricted airflow. Clean or replace your air filter and make sure all vents are open. Also check that the ductwork isn't kinked or crushed.
When to Replace
If your furnace is over 15 years old or the heat exchanger is cracked, replacement is usually the better option. Modern furnaces are more efficient and quieter. Budget $700-$1,200 for a standard propane furnace with professional installation.
